South Australia has a Carers Recognition Act.

Under the act, Carers have the right to be involved in decisions which impact on them in their caring role. This includes Government services and any community service funded by the Government.

Enshrined within the Act is the Carers Charter.

Carers play a critical role in maintaining the fabric of society
Service providers work in partnership with Carers
Carers in Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander communities need specific consideration
All children and young people have the right to enjoy life and reach their potential
Resources are available to provide timely, appropriate and adequate assistance to Carers
