Are you ready for the change on 1 June 2020?

Several years ago, the Federal Government announced changes to carer funding across Australia. This involved shifting funding from a large number of providers for respite services to one or two agencies in each State.

During 2018 and 2019, Carer Support developed a submission for that funding however unfortunately that application was unsuccessful.

Carer Support relied on the Federal Government’s funding and losing this main source of income meant that there needed to be a change in direction.

This loss of funding has not only impacted Carer Support but the sector as a whole.

So what do you need to do now?

We encourage you to register your details with Carers SA, the new South Australian respite service provider from 1 June 2020. You can do so by calling them on 1800 242 636. Registration, which includes an assessment, will take 90 minutes over the phone so we encourage you to register as soon as possible as there may be lengthy delays closer to 1 June 2020.

What about Current Services?

There will be some changes to the services Carer Support provides but lots of support services can still be accessed through us - you will not need to do anything differently.

Carer Support will continue to provide respite services until 30 May 2020 – this is when the respite funding finishes, and Carers SA will then provide services in South Australia.

You will still be able to access existing services through Carer Support and our home support funding for services such as:

  • domestic assistance
  • transport
  • home maintenance
  • social support for individuals
  • social support for groups
  • flexible respite
