Young carers give their time to look after a parent, brother, sister or friend
Are you a Young Carer?
You probably take on responsibilities like cooking meals, cleaning the house, giving medication or helping with socialising, reading and getting dressed.
Caring can make you a stronger, more independent person but it’s exhausting, it can affect your school studies, and make it harder to have fun with friends your own age. As you get older it’s another stress in your life, which can upset your plans for the future.
Someone to talk to
If you need to get things off your chest, you’ll soon be comfortable sharing your worries or seeking out our help and advice.
We’ll guide you through all the support that’s available and refer you to all the services you’re entitled to, so it’s a bit easier to cope.
We’ll talk to school or college to make sure you get the help you need to balance your studies with your responsibilities at home.
We want to listen, we want to relieve the pressure and we don’t want you to miss out.
Taking care of yourself
Looking after your own wellbeing is important, too.
We can help you learn about coping with caring, handling stress and building your confidence. And we’ll help you prepare for the future with things like job applications and getting your driver’s licence.
5-9s: School holiday fun
There are lots of things you can join in with during the holidays.
We go to playgrounds, theatre shows, swimming and days out at the beach. You'll have high-energy, full-on fun and enjoy making new friends.
Get a grown-up to register you with our program so you get invited to all these free activites.
Here’s your chance to get out of the house, have a good time and learn new skills.
Acitivies and trips during term-time and school holidays include movie nights, bowling, and adventures designed to challenge you and boost your confidence.
It’s great to get out of the house, mix with new friends and discover new experiences together.
14-17s: Hanging Out
Nights out and exclusive retreats are perfect for recharging your batteries and discovering new places, sensations and tastes to share.
Get involved in everything from going to the city for dinner to quad-bike riding out-of-town.
There’s always time to simply hang out and make lifelong friends who ‘get-it’. And we’ll support you with school or TAFE, and help you explore your options for the future.
How much will it cost?
Don’t worry about affording all these activities and support.
Everything we do for young carers is no cost thanks to funding from state and federal governments and funds raised by our generous supporters.
How do I get support?
If you live in south or east Adelaide, you’re between 5 and 17 and you care for someone, it’s as easy as registering a few of your details with us.
